Its title is a response to a classic line from John Sayles' movie "Sunshine State," delivered as only a veteran actor like Alan King can: "Nature, on a leash."

Its genesis is my realization that what I want to write and remember about Florida needs its own unique, organic place.

For now, it's just a shoot, the merest hint of green. With time, who knows?

About Me

I'm neither the first nor the last person to be enchanted by Florida's wild places. But as a native Floridian who grew up near the beach, I'm astounded and intrigued by the deep and abiding beauty of Central Florida's interior forests, rivers, swamps, and springs.
